Christian Bök
Christian Bök (1966, Toronto) is known for his experimentalist poetry. He became engaged in poetry in his early twenties after finishing his university studies in Ottawa and returning to Toronto in 1990. He researched English literature for his PhD studies at York University and since 2005 he has taught at the University of Calgary. A veritable encyclopaedia of natural sciences written in an experimental poetic language, his volume, Chrystallography was published in 1994. He was working on his most famous volume, Eunoia (2001) for seven years. This massive volume is a true specimen of poetic virtuosity: using one vowel in each chapter only, thus proving the flexibility of the English language. Eunoia is considered to be one of the best and most successful Canadian collection of poems of all times – for which Bök received the Canadian Griffin Prize in 2002.
