Reina María Rodríguez
Reina María Rodríguez (1952, Havana, Cuba). In Cuba she is recognized as a major poet and also as an advocate for non-governmental cultural spaces. Her rooftop home, informally known as la azotea de Reina, has served as a salon for the Cuban literary community for many years. English translations of her work include La Detencion del Tiempo/Time’s Arrest (Factory School 2005), and Violet Island and Other Poems (2004) and The Winter Garden Photography (2009), both from Green Integer. Her work include: Para un cordero blanco, for which she received the Casa de las Américas Award in 1984, En la arena de Padua, La foto del invernadero, for which she received also the 1998 Casa de las Américas Award. Narrative works: Te daré de comer como a los pájaros (Critical Award, 2001), Tres maneras de tocar un elefante (Italo Calvino Award, 2004) és Variedades de Galeano (Letras Cubanas Award, 2008).
