Eloy Sánchez Rosillo (1948, Murica, Spain) remained an orphan at the age of 7 afther his father died, which defined his childhood and his later work - giving it melancholy and evanescence, resulting in an elegiac tone. In his adolescence, he became influenced by the Italian romantic poet, Giacomo Leopardi. Later, he attended the University of Murcia, where he graduated with a MA degree in Roman Philology. In 1973, he travelled to Italy to study Italian at the famous perugian Universita per Stranieri. He became Professor in Spanish at the University of Murcia. In 1977, Rosillo received the Adonais Award for his book Maneras de estar solo, which enabled him to enter the contemporan Spanish literature. In 1982, he travelled to Italy again, this time to Florence, to research Leopardi’s work. When he returned home, decided to also translate. In 1989, he wrote his PhD dissertation concerning the life and work of Luis Cernuda, which was published in 1992 under the title Fuerza del destino, la vida y la poesia de Luis Cernuda. His volumes include: Páginas de un diario (1981), Elegías (1984), Autorretratos (1989), : La vida (1996), La certeza (2005) for which he received the National Critical Award, Oír la luz (2008), Sueno del origen (2011) and Antes del nombre (2013).
