Adam Zagajewski is a central figure in Polish and international literature. Born in Lemberg in 1945 he spent his childhood years in Gliwice, his university years in Crakow. In 1982 he emigrated to Paris and moved back in Crakow in 2001 where he now lives. He won several prestigious decorations and he was nominated for the Nobel Prize several times. The Hungarian translation of his poems by Gabor Zsille first appeared in 2004. This present volume appeared in 2016 on the occasion of his winning the Janus Pannonius Poetic Prize. Travel and music play a major role in his verse. He covered a great deal of ground from Paris to the cities of Italy all the way to Greece to Houston and Chicago -- his musical world includes Gregorian Choirs, Mozart and Schubert as well as the best players of Jazz. This selection of 100 poems faithfully mirrors all of the above.
